About the Department
St Vincent’s is proud of its International reputation for delivery of Mental Health Services and the use of the ‘Strengths Model’ and recovery opportunities for individuals experiencing mental health issues and illness.  The service includes a 44 bed adult acute inpatient unit for the cities of Yarra and Boroondara. We work collaboratively with peer workers, consumer and carer-consultants and the Aboriginal Liaison Officer. In doing so we acknowledge cultural diversity and recognise the role of psychosocial vulnerability and trauma but aim to foster a spirit of resilience which sees the individual driving their recovery professionally supported by their treating team.

About the Role
Working in the Acute Inpatient Service Unit (AIS) means being part of a busy multidisciplinary team that provides the best possible consumer centred and recovery focused care, whole striving for excellence. This role will see you becoming an important member of a cohesive team, drawing on your clinical and communication skills along with your knowledge and expertise to provide high quality, evidenced based care to the consumers admitted to our Acute Inpatient Service. With the rest of the multidisciplinary team you will contribute to the smooth and efficient day to day running of their unit in conjunction with the ANUM’s, NUM’s and the Director of the Acute Inpatient Service. You will provide a high standard of care in accordance with the Strengths model under a recovery oriented framework working closely with the medical and multidisciplinary teams to achieve a positive outcome for all consumers and their families. You will be offered a range of learning opportunities to develop specialist skills and the opportunity to operate as part of an integrated Adult Area Mental Health Service and we will support you through our extended frontline development program so that you gain confidence in leading and managing others.
 
Key Focus and Duties
  • Provide direct clinical care, guidance and consultation to consumers, carers and visitors to the AIS.
  • Liaise with medical staff and the multidisciplinary team to ensure that consumers are provided  high quality, recovery oriented treatment and care that meets relevant standards such as professional, service and quality standards
  • Practice within a recovery framework promoting consumer directed care
  • Knowledge of contemporary psychiatric nursing practices
  • Cultivating an environment of effective team work
  • Commitment to professional development and advocating the positive outcomes of change
  • Communicate with all relevant nursing, medical, allied health and administrative staff and other key stakeholders to achieve operational requirements and activity targets are achieved as per DHHS guidelines
  • Work with consumers to support and sustain existing resources, assets, networks and relationships and to access opportunities, resources and services to achieve their recovery goals
 
About You
  • Degree in Nursing and post-graduate diploma in Mental Health which meets AHPRA registration requirements  
  • Post Graduate and newly qualified nurses encouraged to apply as are those with experience to share
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and evidence based practise
  • Excellent communicator
